Post members and spouses enjoyed a day trip to West Point. We had a guided tour of the campus, a visit to the museum, and lunch at the Thayer Hotel. A good time was had by all.
Sen. Susie Oppenheimer named WWII veteran and long time Larchmont resident William Capodanno to the NYS Senate “Veterans Hall of Fame”. Bill served in the Pacific Theater from 1941 to 1946, and moved to Larchmont in 1952. He has been an active member of VFW Post 1156 for over 65 years, and served numerous terms as Post Commander.
VFW Post 1156 and Town of Mamaroneck officials honored Eagle Scout candidate Adam Bernstein upon the completion of a dual-purpose service project over an 8 month period. Adam revamped the VFW’s “Wall of Honor” which highlights the Post’s commitment to service to veterans and service to community. He also replaced the ADA-accessible walkway and ramp for the Town Senior Center. Supervisor Valerie O’Keeffe presented Adam with a commendation for his work.
Post members and spouses enjoyed guided tours by Park Rangers of the WWII Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial on Friday. That evening we had a memorable group dinner at the Key Bridge Marriott where we stayed. On Saturday, we visited Arlington Memorial Cemetery and saw the Tomb of the Unknowns and Changing of the Guard before returning home. It was a great trip!
